The Department of Mathematical Sciences (JSM), formerly known as the Institute of Engineering Mathematics (IMK), is at the forefront of advancing mathematical sciences, engineering applications, and intelligent computing at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). We are committed to delivering impactful education, cutting-edge research, and innovative solutions that support industry needs and national development, in line with the National Industrial Master Plan.

On 1 July 2025, JSM merged with the Department of Computer Science to form the Faculty of Intelligent Computing (FKC). This transformation marks a new era of interdisciplinary excellence, bringing together mathematics and computing to drive innovation, strengthen research impact, and enhance global academic visibility.

JSM has built a strong legacy of hosting internationally recognised conferences, including the Regional Conference on Applied & Engineering Mathematics (RCAEM), the International Conference on Mathematics, Engineering and Industrial Applications (ICoMEIA), and the International Conference on Applied and Engineering Mathematics (ICoAEM). These platforms continue to connect researchers, academics, and industry experts from around the world to share ideas and advance knowledge.

Today, JSM continues to evolve as a dynamic academic hub-producing future-ready graduates, fostering high-impact research, and shaping solutions for a smarter, more connected world.
